Latent prints can sometimes be developed on brass, nickel, and copper cartridges cases by means of cyanoacrylate fuming, etching with a “Blue” Etching Solution, and post-treatment with an Acidified Peroxide Solution.

The principle behind this sequence is that the person handling the cartridge casing will transfer a latent print containing lipids or sebaceous oils to the casing and additionally may transfer other substances such as lubricating grease to the casing. These substances will protect metal surfaces directly beneath them from chemical reaction or etching and may provide for the possibility of development by cyanoacrylate.

TTF's kit includes all the necessary reagents and supplies needed to develop latent prints on cartridge cases. The reagents are also available to reorder individually as needed. Note: This process will only work with brass, copper, and nickel cartridges and cartridge casings. Steel, lacquered nickel, and cases with a polymer coating are not suitable for this method.

To develop latent prints TTF's Cartridge Case Development Kit, begin by lightly fuming the item with cyanoacrylate. After fuming the cartridge case, immerse it into the “Blue” Etching Solution. To stop the process and prevent the print from being overexposed, the casing should be placed in distilled water. Let the casing air-dry and the blue-black coating to harden. The areas that were not protected by lipids and cyanoacrylate will turn a blue-black colour. The developed latent prints should be photographed and kept as evidence. A post-treatment with the supplied acidified peroxide solution can now be performed.

FORENSTIX Presumptive Tests are designed to provide the crime scene investigator with the ability to conduct presumptive chemical fluid field tests utilizing simple methodology and minimum equipment. These one-time use tests feature a swab pad on the end of a plastic tube containing a glass crush vial with premixed chemical reagents.

To use FORENSTIX Presumptive Tests, simply remove the cardboard protective cap and moisten the swab pad with the included distilled water or reagent. To collect the sample, you will rub the swab pad on the suspected stain. Once you have successfully collected the sample, break the crush vials in the plastic tube, shake to mix the liquids, and gently squeeze the tube to moisten the swab pad. Observe a colour change to indicate a positive presumptive reaction.

Each box of FORENSTIX Presumptive Tests contains eight tests, a dropper bottle of distilled water or reagent, and instructions for use.

GELL-LIFT Liquid Print Lifter is a liquid gel print lifting medium that was specifically designed to lift powdered latent prints from difficult or textured surfaces.

It fills in the texture and therefore encapsulates the print for lifting. It is particularly useful on textured vinyl such as dashboards or vinyl seats, deeply grained woods or Formica, textured metals such as appliances or office machines, and textured plastics commonly found on consumer electronics.

To use our GELL-LIFT Liquid Print Lifter, first dust the latent prints with powder. Next, place a few drops of the GELL-LIFT onto the side of the latent. Spread it into a thin layer over the dusted latent with a toothpick or paperclip.
Let the GELL-LIFT dry completely and lift the encapsulated latent print with tape or lifter and place on a backing card.

Hydro-Print (Small Particle Reagent) is specifically formulated for developing latent prints found outdoors on wet or damp surfaces such as automobiles, glass windows, plastic, or even oxidized metal surfaces.

Using Hydro-Print is simple: add approximately 16 oz./500 ml of either tap or distilled water to the Hydro-Print spray bottle which contains the Small Particle Reagent, then shake the bottle to assure a homogeneous solution. When Hydro-Print is sprayed on the surface where you suspect prints may be found, Hydro-Print will adhere to the oils found in fingerprints. Once the print has been developed, it should be photographed. After the print has dried, it can be lifted using tape or a hinged lifter.

Hydro-Print can also be used for developing latent prints on the "sticky side" of duct and packaging tape. Begin by mounting the tape, sticky side out, on a glass, plastic, or metal plate, then develop the print using Hydro-Print. After photographs have been taken, cover and protect the developed print by affixing lifting tape or the cover of a hinged lifter to the tape.

Hydro-Print is most effective if used within six months of manufactured date. It should be stored in a cool, dark place. A detailed instruction sheet is supplied with each 16 oz. bottle of Hydro-Print.

TTF's Leucocrystal Violet Presumptive Blood Test Kit is a highly sensitive test used in the field and forensics laboratory to indicate the presence of blood.

TTF's Leucocrystal Violet Presumptive Blood Test is packaged in a durable, lightweight plastic box for easy and safe transport from one crime scene to another. It includes all the premixed chemicals and supplies required to conduct the Leucocrystal Violet Presumptive Blood Test. All of the reagents are supplied in plastic dropper bottles for easy use. The kit also includes a Known Bloodstain Control to ensure that the test results are accurate. All kit components are also available to reorder individually as needed.

The Leucocrystal Violet Presumptive Blood Test is administered by first collecting both a positive control using the supplied Known Bloodstain Control and a negative control by testing an unstained sample. Next, a sample of the suspected stain should be collected using either a piece of filter paper or a cotton-tipped swab. One drop of each of the Leucocrystal Violet reagents is then applied to the collected sample. The results are easy to read: a positive presumptive result causes the sample to turn a deep blue colour.

Luminol is a well-known and widely used method for the detection of blood at a crime scene, even if the blood is invisible to the human eye.

It can be used to locate very dilute blood in areas where someone has attempted to wash away the blood. Luminol is also useful to help detect and visualize previously invisible bloody footwear impressions at crime scenes. When Luminol is sprayed on a suspected area, it will glow a white/blue when it comes in contact with blood in a darkened room (UV lamp not required). The resulting pattern can then be photographed.

Luminol can be difficult to use in the field because of the tedious measuring and mixing required. Our Luminol Blood Detection Reagent Powder comes in premeasured vials for quick, no mess mixing. Simply take one vial, add to distilled water, shake gently, and spray the suspected area with a pump sprayer or spray head. MBD Fluorescent Stain Mixture is used after the cyanoacrylate development of latent prints.

It allows you to view and photograph latent prints on various coloured surfaces and is particularly useful for prints developed on plastic bags. These prints are viewable using a forensics light source.

MBD Fluorescent Stain Mixture is used in conjunction with cyanoacrylate to form a compound that will fluoresce under a laser or forensic light source. Note: It should never be used on latent prints that have not been fumed with Cyanoacrylate.

MBD Fluorescent Stain is applied by submerging the item into the solution. The item should be rinsed to remove any excess dye using our MBD Fluorescent Stain Mixture Rinse/Destain (Reorder No. CHE-3167) and allowed to dry. To view the developed print, use a forensic light source and then photograph to keep as evidence.
